To most, Valentine’s Day is a special occasion, but for many it is just another day, especially for the senior citizens in and around Randfontein.
Trudy’s Nest Luncheon Club in partnership with Woman Against Women and Child Abuse (Wawa) and Toekomsrus Victim Empowerment Programme, surprised 80 senior citizens from Toekomsrus and Mohlakeng Old Age Home with a touch of love on the special day.

The event, which was held at the Mohlakeng Old Age Home, was an amazing day filled with love and fun, and brought smiles to the seniors’ faces.
“Our senior citizens were entertained by an early childhood development centre in the Mohlakeng area. They were also put through there paces by the Wawa caregivers’ Men and Boys Sporting Programme to keep the balance of healthy living after all the sweet treats,” said Enrico Bhana from Wawa.
Mohlakeng Old Age Home manager, Sister Monica praised Trudy’s Nest, Wawa’s Victim Empowerment Programme, the local ward councillor and the community for hosting such a lovely Valentine’s event and said more such events will be welcomed.

“We want to partner with as many organisations as possible in and around the Rand West region to give our senior citizens the best days of their lives – not only in Toekomsrus, but also in the greater Randfontein area,” Enrico added.
“We tend to forget about our elderly and as Wawa, we saw it fit to spend our Valentine’s Day spoiling them and showing them love,” he said.
