UPDATE: Man found dead a day after fight identified

Man allegedly assaulted and left for dead survived by two children and his wife. His funeral will be held in Elandsfontein.

The 35-year-old man who died following a fight with another man on a farm on the N14 road in Brandvlei over the weekend has been identified by a family friend.

He is Seuntjie Smous, and according to 53-year-old family friend Daniel Mmokwa, leaves two children and his wife.

Captain Appel Ernst, the Randfontein Police spokesperson said in a statement, “It is alleged the victim was in a physical fight with another man at about 5.30pm on Sunday, 11 February. The victim allegedly sustained a head injury as a result of the assault and fell to the ground. Later, the victim went to sleep, but he did not wake up on the morning of 12 February.”

Smous’ funeral will be held in Elandsfontein on Saturday 17 February.
