The Kruger family can breathe a sigh of relief after their long battle to have a dangerous issue resolved has come an end.
Estie Kruger from Greenhills explained that a hole of approximately 2,5 metres long and 1,5 metres wide had formed on the sidewalk at their gate seven months ago because of a burst water pipe. This was the second time it happened.
Willie Horne, DA Ward 6 chairperson intervened and sent the Herald a photo during his visit to the family on Saturday, 3 February.
On Tuesday, 6 February, when the Herald visited the family, Rand West City Local Municipality workers had just left after filling the hole.

The Krugers have been reporting the problem to the municipality since July last year. Municipal workers did come out once to look at it and promised they would report back to them.
“Nothing was done after that and nobody contacted us,” said Kruger.
Besides being unsightly, the water-filled, almost waist-deep hole posed a danger to humans an animals alike. Two cats and a puppy had fallen into it and drowned, while a neighbour’s Basset hound was fortunate to escape the same fate after also falling into it.
Getting into or out at the passenger side of a vehicle at the gate was challenging, to say the least.
Jeannie, their daughter said she almost fell into the hole recently. It was especially dangerous at night time.
The family thanks Horne for intervening, as they had started to wonder whether it would ever be attended to.
