Young men held for illegal firearm, ammunition

Westonaria Police nabbed two young men for illegal gun and ammo.

Two men aged 24 and 25 were arrested in the Speruperu informal settlement in Westonaria this past weekend for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Warrant Officer Raymond Sebonyane, Westonaria Police spokesperson said, “At about 1.30am on Sunday, 4 February, the Westonaria Intervention Task Team, led by Constable Jeffrey Magoro, acted on information about an unlicensed firearm. The members went to the identified address and inside the shack they found two men. They were in possession of a 9mm pistol, two rounds of ammunition and one magazine hidden in the shack.

“The serial number of the pistol had been tampered with. The two men were arrested and detained at Westonaria Police Station.”

The suspects briefly appeared in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 5 February.

Acting Westonaria Police station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Hazel Makhafola applauded the members.

“She also extended her appreciation towards the community, who works hand in hand with the Westonaria Police,” Sebonyane added.
