U3A West Rand invites pensioners

U3A West Rand has a full and stimulating program lined up for 2018.

At 9.15am on Tuesday, 13 February, the U3A (University of the Third Age) West Rand will be kicking off the new year with a meeting at the NG Kerk, Wilgespruit.

All retirees from Randfontein, Westonaria and surrounding areas are welcome to join the U3A West Rand and meet new people, listen to interesting talks, go to lunches, and go out on outings with them. They already have a full and stimulating programme lined up for 2018.

The venue for the meeting is the Wilgespruit NG Kerk, Mimosa Street, Wilro Park.

On the day, the speaker will be Ernest Porter, a lecturer, photographer and expert bird lover. He will be showing the attendees photos and videos of the Black Eagles of the Botanical Gardens and other birds. He is also a committee member for the Black Eagles Project and other members of this project will be their guests at this meeting.

“Do not miss it, it promises to be extraordinary,” said Marthie Coetzer, from U3A West Rand.

The 2018 annual membership fee is R70. Visitors’ fee is R30 per function. Tea/ coffee and biscuits are served at the monthly meetings at R5 per cup.

The bookings for the Bus Tour to Parys on 21 February 2018 will be open at this meeting and the R400 per person is payable then. Non-members will pay an additional amount of R30.

Bon-Af Berry Farm will be the first stop, where you can choose between a hundred different kinds of berries to pick, and eat as many berries as you like. Lunch will be served at O’s Restaurant on the banks of the Vaal River, under the trees in their beautiful garden.

Parys, specifically the Vredefort Dome, is known for the meteorite that struck the earth millions of years ago. Christo from Kopjeskraal will tell them all about this (with videos and samples of rocks) and the huge impact that it had on the surrounding areas, during their third stop of the day.
