Tambotie Mall was all abuzz on Saturday, 27 January.
Randfontein Show organisers advertised on social media that they would be having a flash sale – for only six hours – of discounted Show tickets at the mall. They also advertised that something never seen at the mall before would take place at 11am and 1pm.
“The social media posts certainly created a lot of hype and many Facebook users shared and tagged their friends about visiting the mall on Saturday,” said Joy Hamann, Media and Marketing Coordinator for the Show.
“Tickets sales went very well and we sold 1 144 adult tickets, 217 children’s and 209 senior citizen tickets.”
At 11am, at the Checkers entrance of the mall, music started playing and suddenly a young man started dancing, then another and another and another. Eventually there was a whole crew of Hip Hop dancers wowing the crowds with their slick moves in a flash-mob. This happened again at the Mugg and Bean entrance at 1pm and the dancers received cheers and applause after their high-energy performance.
“Since Tambotie Mall is sponsoring the brand new Hip Hop Dance Competition at the Show, we thought it would be appropriate that dancers gave the public a taste of what Hip Hop dancing is all about,” said Joy.
“It was something completely different and unexpected and we received lots of positive feedback from members of the public.”
The Hip Hop Competition is open to dancers from the age of 7 upwards. The two dance categories are solo and crews (five dancers or more). Entries close on Friday, 16 February.
