Heavy rain hits R’fontein, more to come

The municipality revealed some issues following yesterday's heavy rainfall.

Monday’s heavy rainfall in Randfontein is just the start of what is to come, according to the weatherman.

On Monday afternoon, 29 January, rain came pouring down with the Herald reporting that storm-water drains had overflowed and some streets were flooded.

Although there was no major damage reported, Tshidiso Thlaripe, spokesperson for the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) Executive Mayor, Mzi Khumalo, said there were other issues.

“We have not received any reports of damage from the community. What we have received is maintenance issues, where the storm-water drains were filled to capacity and overflowed. This mostly occurred in Greenhills as well as the Village Square Mall and municipal offices in Toekomsrus.

“We also received many complaints from motorists regarding potholes which have re-emerged. We are in the process of finalising the adjustment budget – once it is finalised we will attend to these above mentioned issues.”

Looking at the weather, the South African Weather Service predicts heavy rainfall until next week Monday.
