Man gets protection order, burns ex-girlfriend’s home

Ex-boyfriend Tuesday sets lover's home on fire after receiving protection order.

On Tuesday, 23 January, a 35-year-old man set his ex-girlfriend’s home alight after he received a protection order.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, confirmed that the incident took place at about 10.34pm in Bekkersdal.

“The victim served the perpetrator with a protection order which made him furious. He then threatened to kill her.

She allegedly decided to sleep at her friends’ home, where she was awoken by a phone call informing her that her shack was on fire. She rushed home and found her shack burning. The matter was reported to the police and the suspect was traced and arrested.”

He will be charged with arson and is expected to appear before the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon.
