Alleged love-triangle killer sentenced to 15 years in jail

Samuel Moatshe, 25, was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court recently for stabbing another man to death on a plot in Brandvlei last year.

On Saturday night 18 February 2017, Moatshe stabbed his girlfriend and another man repeatedly. The man died of his wounds and Moatshe was arrested shortly afterwards.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson said, “The fight was allegedly regarding a relationship between the victim and Moatshe’s girlfriend. Moatshe became aggressive and stabbed the victim and the girlfriend repeatedly.”

Brigadier Mashole Jacob Manamela, the Randfontein Police station commander, congratulated the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Rupert van Zyl on the successful conclusion of the case.

“Teamwork by the investigating officer, the National Prosecuting Authority and ultimately the presiding magistrate, resulted in this success. We are adamant that there is no place in Randfontein for violent criminals,” he said.
