Three arrested for copper cable theft

During a festive-season operation, Bekkersdal Intervention Unit arrested three copper thieves, but another three escaped.

The Bekkersdal Intervention Unit had their hands full during the festive season.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, they managed to apprehend three suspects with ages ranging from 22 to 41 for being in possession of copper cable.

“It is alleged that Constable Pontsho Thipe and Constable Sibusiso Nonkonyane received an anonymous tip-off about people busy stripping a cable in the Tambo section.

They followed up on the information and found six men busy stripping the cable. The officers apprehended three of the suspects while three managed to escape. They will be charged with being in possession of copper cable.

Colonel Abraham Nkhwashu, the Bekkersdal Police Station Commander commended the members for a job well done.
