Elderly man murdered days before Xmas

Elderly man picked on, followed and then stabbed to death by 30-year-old in Spooktown, local police say.

A young man has been charged with the murder of a 63-year-old man. The victim was killed in Spooktown, Bekkersdal Police said.

The 30-year-old was arrested by detective Sergeant Hendrick Moiloa in connection with the incident that happened at about 8pm on Sunday, 17 December.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson said, “It is alleged the victim was enjoying himself at a place in Spooktown when the suspect picked an argument with him. The owner of the place allegedly asked the suspect to leave as he was uncontrollable, which he did, but allegedly waited somewhere for the victim.

“After some time the elderly man left and the suspect allegedly followed and attacked him. He stabbed him multiple times, causing the victim to die on the scene.

The suspect fled on foot and he was traced and arrested after the police had responded to information. He already appeared in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court.”

Colonel Abraham Nkhwashu, the Bekkersdal Police station commander thanked the community for the information that led to the arrest and commended the member for his swift reaction.
