Danel Rooskrans’ alleged murderer appeared in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court for the first time on Thursday morning (4 January). The affected families were informed of his appearance in court.

After the suspect had indicated that he was seeking legal aid, the case was postponed to Tuesday, 9 January for a bail application. By then he would have been assigned a legal representative. He was taken to the Krugersdorp Correctional Services facility after his appearance.

As the Herald reported on Wednesday, the victim’s ex-boyfriend did not sustain critical injuries during the fatal domestic-violence related incident.

Rooskrans’ funeral arrangements have also since changed. On Saturday, 6 January at 8am, family, friends and relatives will gather at the late Danel’s parents’ home at 327 Virgo Street. They will then proceed to the Toekomsrus Cemetery. Everybody is welcome to attend.

Rooskrans was brutally murdered at a house on Venus Street, Toekomsrus on New Year’s Eve. Police confirmed that she was beaten with a garden tool, allegedly by her boyfriend. The Herald was told by another source that the suspect is her ex-boyfriend.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson added, “The boyfriend allegedly started assaulting the victim. She was badly beaten before the concerned community intervened.”

Rooskrans was transported to a local clinic but she was declared dead on arrival. Residents in the area apprehended the suspect and he was allegedly assaulted by some of the angry community members. Randfontein Police members who responded to the complaint of murder took him away from the angry crowd. He was in hospital under police guard and the Herald confirmed on Wednesday that his condition was not critical.

The investigative officer is detective Warrant Officer Rupert van Zyl. Witnesses are requested to contact him on 011 278 8100.
