Boozy ‘porcupine’ will prick things up

Be careful - it has quite a sting!

WHILE people living in the northern hemisphere pretend to be looking forward to a cold, white Christmas, South Coasters will be lazing around in the sun.

The ‘north’ will be thinking of eggnog, gluwein and other dubious concoctions, the ‘south’ will be thinking of ice cold cocktails to enjoy in or around the pool.

Here’s an idea to add a little bit more festive season ‘spirit’ at this time of year: Concoct a ‘porcupine’.

This is how you do it:

* Buy a large watermelon from the roadside or virtually any supermarket;

* Cut a largish window out the top of the watermelon;

* Keep the cut-out as a lid;

* Scoop out some of the flesh inside;

* Mush the rest up a bit;

* Add a bottle of white rum;

* Put the lid back on and store in the freezer overnight;

* When you and your guests are in the mood, insert the thickest straws you can find into the watermelon (hence, the ‘porcupine’ effect);

The novelty gets the party going, but don’t be too greedy. This ‘porcupine’ has a sting and is definitely NOT for anyone under 18.
