#16DaysOfActivism: Police to spread Christmas cheer

A Christmas project that will specifically target women and children who were victims of crime during the past year has been launched. Details here ...

On 23 November, the West Rand Cluster Family Violence, Child Abuse and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit was visited by a group of young entrepreneurs who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of abused women and children

The group of men and women donated 10 boxes filled with goodies that will be given to victims of abuse.

The 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign is commemorated across the globe to strengthen the rights of women and children and raise awareness about the scourge of abuse against them. Each year, the period from 25 November to 10 December is set aside to highlight both abuse as the poison that cripples our society and human rights, and the initiatives that are running in many parts of the country in support of gender-based violence victims.

“Captain Paula Terblanche, the FCS West Rand project manager also launched a Christmas project that will specifically target women and children who were victims of crime during the past year,” said Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police.

Investigators from the FCS will visit each and every victim they dealt with in the last year, to bring them some Christmas cheer. The group of donors also gave their full support to this project, which entails filling decorated coffee tins with special treats for Christmas.

Captain Terblanche thanked the group of kind-hearted donors for their assistance in making the FCS Christmas project a reality, and on behalf of the group, Helen Fuller wished the FCS investigators well in their effort to make a difference in the lives of victims

“Thank you for the way in which you support victims of abuse. It does not go unnoticed. Your efforts are appreciated,” she said.
