Two killed in latest illegal mining clash

Two killed last night – Police say it is the fourth incident of illegal miners being killed due to fights within the illegal mining sphere.

Two men, allegedly illegal miners, were stoned to death near Bhongweni, Randfontein on Tuesday evening (28 November).

The incident took place at about 6.30pm.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, “It is alleged the two victims, aged 33 and 38, were on their way to an alleged illegal mining site when they were confronted by their attackers, who stoned them to death. Both victims lived in Kagiso.

“This is the fourth incident in which people were killed in fights among those involved in illegal mining. We urgently need assistance to curb these murders,” she said.
