Seven arrested for cigarette heist

Team of Bekkersdal detectives arrested seven suspects for targeting a truck loaded with cigarettes last week.

A team of Bekkersdal detectives have arrested seven suspects aged from 26 to 44 years for targeting a truck carrying a consignment of cigarettes.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson said, “A 27-year-old victim was delivering boxes of cigarettes at a tuck shop in Bekkersdal when he was accosted by the suspects at about 7.30am on Wednesday, 22 November.

“They allegedly dragged the driver and his colleague to the back of the truck, where they off-loaded the cigarettes. A case of robbery was reported to the Bekkersdal Police and through an investigation led by Captain Bethuel Silinda, the suspects were apprehended.

“They will all be charged with being in possession of stolen property.”

The station commander, Colonel Abraham Nkhwashu, applauded the members for a job well done.
