Three suspects arrested for possession of drugs

The crime prevention officers were conducting their routine stop-and-search operation when they received information about drugs being peddled in Bekkersdal and Simunye.

This morning (17 November), at approximately 4am, the Bekkersdal crime prevention team led by Captain Nokuthula Sebonyane arrested three males aged between 22 and 31 for possession of substances suspected to be Nyaope and other drugs.

The crime prevention officers were conducting their routine stop-and-search operation when they received information about drugs, particularly nyaope, being peddled in the Bekkersdal and Simunye areas.

“The members followed up on the information, and subsequently arrested two suspects in Bekkersdal and one in Simunye.

The suspects will be charged with dealing in drugs, said Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, Sergeant Linkie Lefakane.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 20 November. The station commander, Colonel Abraham Nkhwashu, was very pleased with the arrest and applauded the members for their dedication and good work. He also commended the community for providing the information that led to the perpetrators being brought to book.

“Crime affects us all, so let us all join hands to eradicate it,” he said.
