One patient dead and 28 injured after two taxis and a truck collide

The exact cause of the collision is not yet known.

A woman was killed and another 28 people were injured on Sunday 19 November. Two taxis and a truck collided at the N12 and R28 intersection in Westonaria at approximately 8pm.

According to ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring, paramedics were returning to their branch when they came across the accident scene where one taxi was lying on its roof on the side of the road while the second taxi and truck were standing in the middle of the road. Passengers from both taxis were walking around on the scene.

“Paramedics found the body of a woman, believed to be in her 30s, lying behind the overturned taxi. An assessment revealed that she had sustained a serious head injury and showed no signs of life.

Unfortunately, nothing could be done for the woman and she was declared dead,” said Meiring.

Paramedics also discovered that another 28 people had sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious. They treated them and provided the seriously injured with advanced life support interventions before they were transported to various provincial hospitals for further care.

The exact cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
