The community of Simunye was very happy with the initiative and thanked the members.

On 15 November, the Bekkersdal Crime Prevention team, in partnership with two other groups, went on a crime prevention blitz around Simunye.

The Local Community Development Worker and the Patroller Coordinator walked through Simunye Extensions 1, 3 and 4, with the purpose of addressing crime affecting the area.

“The awareness programme started at 8.30am, and ended at 11.00am. Pamphlets relating to rape, theft of motor vehicles and general safety tips were distributed throughout the communities,” said Sergeant Linkie Lefakana, spokesperson for the Bekkersdal police.

The team, led by the Vispol Coordinator, Captain Nokuthula Sebonyane, spoke one-on-one with members of the community as they moved through the area. They also encouraged the community to report crime as it happened and to attend community meetings when called upon.

The community of Simunye was very pleased with the initiative and thanked the members.
