House robberies – a major concern for police

Police: It is evident that the robbers are pouncing on our residents when they are either leaving or returning home.

Police are concerned about two cases of house robbery which occurred in broad daylight recently – not the first of their kind in the past few months either.

In the first incident, a 37-year-old woman was overpowered when she came home at about 5.45pm and in the second incident, a 69-year-old woman was overpowered when she arrived home at 10pm.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson said, “These are the latest incidents of this nature that have been reported, but not the first of their kind in the past few months. It is evident that the robbers are pouncing on our residents when they are either leaving from or returning to their homes.”

She added that no robbery is totally preventable, but a number of tips – to be published in the next edition of the Herald – might hamper or discourage the criminals from committing the crime.

The Herald is to meet with local security companies soon, in order to produce a more in-depth article on the subject. This will also be published in the next edition.
