Off-duty cop found shot dead inside vehicle

Off-duty police officer of the Kagiso Visible Policing Unit killed in Mohlakeng.

A 35-year-old off-duty police officer was found dead with a gunshot wound in his vehicle in Mohlakeng over the weekend.

The incident took place in Moshoeshoe Street at about 10.45am on Saturday, 11 November.

“A friend of the slain constable alleged that he had visited them. When he left, they heard a gunshot. Upon investigation, they found their friend dead in his vehicle,” said Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson.

The deceased was a member of the Kagiso Visible Policing Unit. The motive for his murder is still under investigation.

“This was a senseless murder of one of our own. We need urgent information to trace and arrest the perpetrators.

Our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family,” said Brigadier Mashole Jacob Manamela, Randfontein Police station commander.
