According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, “It is alleged that on 28 August 2017 the victim, an 18-year-old learner, was sitting next to the school waiting for transport when he was accosted by the suspects.

“They threatened him with a knife and demanded his cellphone. He gave the cellphone to them, fearing for his life. The matter was reported to the Bekkersdal Police and a case of robbery was registered,” Lefakane said.

The suspects were then traced and arrested by detective Sergeant Hendrick Moiloa and Constable Sikhumbuzo Myeniwho, who also recovered the stolen phone. The two suspects were charged with robbery and have been in custody since the passing of their sentence.

Colonel Abraham Nkhwashu, the Bekkersdal Police station commander, applauded the members for a job well done.

“This must serve as a lesson to the youth of Bekkersdal particularly to those who are gang members,” he said.
