TV thieves sentenced to three years behind bars

Two men get 3 years in prison for trying to steal a TV and housebreaking.

Two men in their 20s both from Bekkersdal was recently handed a three-year sentence for housebreaking and being in possession of housebreaking implements.

August Sithole, 25, and Ernest Sithole, 26, committed the crime in Fourie Street, Westonaria on 28 July this year.

Warrant Officer Raymond Sebonyane, Westonaria Police spokesperson said the men were sentenced in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court.

“It is alleged the complainant and his family were sleeping. Suddenly the complainant heard a noise in his yard. He went outside to investigate and he saw two unknown men in his neighbors yard,” Sebonyane said.

The accused men were carrying the complainant’s plasma television. The victim together with his neighbors apprehended the suspects and immediately called the police.

“Constable Rudzani Mavhungu and Constable Mapule Mthiyane detained the suspects at the Westonaria police station.

A case docket was opened and the case investigated.

Lieutenant Colonel Robert Makhuba, Westonaria Police acting station commander applauded the community members for working together with the police in the fight against crime.
