Three years in jail for housebreaking and theft

Man, 29, to spend three years behind bars for the housebreaking and theft crime he committed in August last year.

Zamani Dlamini, 29, was convicted and sentenced to three years’ direct imprisonment in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court for housebreaking and theft, a crime committed in Bekkersdal on 18 August last year.

“It is alleged the victim left his rented shack to go to Mozambique and when he returned, he realised his shack had been broken into.

Investigations revealed that Dlamini, who was known to the victim, had broken into his shack,” said Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson.

He was taken to the Bekkersdal Police station where a case of housebreaking was registered. The officers who assisted with the case, Sergeants Clara Matshediso and Monaheng Thaele, followed up on information received and recovered some of the items reported stolen.

“The suspect was charged and has since been denied bail until the passing of his sentence,” Sergeant Lefakane said.

Colonel Abraham Nkhwashu, Bekkersdal Police station commander was very pleased with the outcome of the case and applauded the members for a job well done.

“This must serve as an example to all the criminals around Bekkersdal – crime doesn’t pay,” he said.
