Let us get closer to Him

Christian women from various denominations held a prayer day touching on religious matters, community issues and the youth in the streets.

Christian women from various denominations under the umbrella of Dikonono Tsa Bomme (Women of Strength) came together at the Assemblies of God Church in Mohlakeng recently for an uplifting prayer day.

They did not only touch on religious and Christian matters – they spoke about community issues and held a joint payer for matriculants.

“The aim was to pray for Randfontein and the nation and bring women and children closer to God,” said Naomi Mekgwe, the event organiser.

She added, “Our children are in the streets and facing challenges. We have to get them out of these situations and go on our knees.”

Pretty Cossa, a local gospel artist who once featured in the Joyous Celebration and Spirit of Praise with Rand West City first lady, Ntsiki Khumalo and Zanele Lobishe from Bekkersdal kept the spirits high with some uplifting choruses.

Naomi described Ntsiki as a servant of God and humble person. Ntsiki then encouraged women to be cautious about how they speak to their children.

“Let us be careful what we say and talk to our children about and not break down their confidence or self-worth. We need to build a good relationship between our children and God”.

Pastor Tumi Kekana from Soweto then gave a chilling account of how she survived a car accident in which she sustained brain damage and how she managed to forgive her abusive father.

“There is hope in Jesus Christ. If we are here with one hope and one heart we can change this generation through the Holy Spirit,” Tumi said.

Nomvuyo Manaba, a local nurse, also gave her testimony on how she survived breast cancer, giving women advice and urging them to go for breast cancer examinations.

“Take care of yourselves, cancer is not for a particular race, gender or or age,” she warned.

Regarding women faced with abusive relationships, Pastor Nosi Mboba said, “God has a divine appointment with you, you do not belong in an abusive relationship. Don’t let the tough circumstances move you away from Him, rather closer.”
