Woman burns herself UPDATE: Back home at last

Woman who set herself alight is at home after three months in hospital. Here is an update on her condition.

Susan van Rooyen, 53, who set herself alight is finally back home after being in hospital for more than three months.

The incident happened on Monday afternoon (10 July) this year in Union Street, Randgate. The Herald saw CCTV footage of her pouring approximately two litres of petrol over herself and rubbing it into her hair and face.

Van Rooyen had skin surgery and received various treatments and spent three months in hospital. She must visit her doctor every two weeks and is on a special diet and receives special care. She is currently living with her daughter, Susan Cloete, and keeps herself busy with knitting and colouring in.
