At your service – Randgate Library, free to the public

The library strives to make the community happy and goes the extra mile.

The Randgate Library recently received more than 400 new English books, plus a whole lot of children’s books, and the staff and management are excited to be able to share these new books with the community.

With friendly staff, WiFi facilities, internet connections, daily newspapers and magazines, the library is definitely the place to spend your free time. The Herald recently went to the library with Sina Erasmus, the ward councillor, to see how the library operates, and asked about the services they provide.

Metsa Teffu, the supervisor, told the Herald they strive to make the community happy and that everyone is welcome. There is no charge to become a member at the library, and adults are able to take out six books per month. Children under the age of 16 are allowed to take four books at a time.

How can I become a member?

• Fill in an application form

• Bring a proof of address such as a water and lights account, or get proof at the council

• Bring your ID document

The library is also excited about their new Afrikaans books that have been ordered and are to be delivered soon. Metsa told the Herald the staff always puts up new notices and important information to inform the public about exciting new books and also rules and regulations.

“The community must make use of the library. School children must do research and come and read all of the nice books that are available. I believe that reading is the key to success,” said Sina.

What can you do at the library?

• Do research

• Make use of the internet (print-outs must be paid for)

• Read books, newspapers and magazines

• Participate in holiday programmes

• Take part in their readathons

Metsa told the Herald that she and her staff will always go the extra mile to assist and accommodate the community.

The library is asking the community to donate any old books that are in a good condition for other people to read. The library is on the corner of Van Deventer and Union Streets in Randgate and is open weekdays from 8am to 5pm. Saturdays they are open from 8am till 12noon. On Sundays and public holidays, the library is closed.
