Girl, 14 months, nearly drowns in pool

Child nearly drowns in swimming pool in Vleikop, taken to hospital. Read here about her condition.

At about 5.30pm on Wednesday, 11 October, ER24 paramedics received an emergency call saying a 14-month-old baby girl had almost drowned and was in need of urgent medical attention in Vleikop.

An official reliable source told the Herald the little girl spent about two minutes under water before she was pulled out of the swimming pool. A family member performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) until he felt a light pulse.

ER24 paramedics then took over and stabilised her, and transported her to a hospital. The source also told the Herald that there was proper fencing around the pool. At about 3.15pm today, the Herald was told that she is on a ventilator, but starting to breathe on her own.

The source also revealed that the hospital said it is to early to give a prognosis.
