• 6 October: Round Table Krugersdorp 48 Golf Day fundraiser at Randfontein Golf Club
Round Table Krugersdorp 48 will be hosting a Golf Day fundraiser for Helmarie Naudé, a five-year-old girl who has spastic cerebral palsy resulting from birth asphyxia. They are raising funds to help her with an operation that she needs to undergo before she turns seven. This procedure will be performed by Dr Alok Sharma at the NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute in India. Helmarie also needs speech therapy and Botox treatment for her leg muscles, as well as eye tests and spectacles. They are aiming for approximately 120 players, who will be divided into 30 four-balls. • 8 October: The Spar Women’s Challenge in Johannesburg
The first rumblings of thunder and a tinge of purple on the jacaranda trees are reminders that one of the most important events in Johannesburg is just around the corner – the Spar Women’s Challenge. This year, the Spar Women’s 10km Challenge and 5km Fun Run have moved to a bigger and greener new venue, the Marks Park Sporting Club in Emmarentia. If you haven’t entered yet, there is still time – online entries will be accepted until midnight on Friday, 29 September. If you miss that deadline, there is no need to despair – late entries will be accepted at registration from Thursday October 5 until just before the race on Sunday.
