On Saturday, 30 September, crowds of residents and friends went to Sungate Farms, to join the festivities and celebrate their Spring Adventure Run for their 22nd birthday.

The morning started off with the 10km run, followed by a 5km run. Kurt Berndt, who ran the 10km, said it was great, just very hot.

Joy Hamman, from the Randfontein Publicity Association (RPA) giving the Herald a beautiful smile.

The Herald attended the event and was surprised to see all the activities, especially the action-packed wrestling, and 19-year-old Refentse Morake with his band, who won the South African Music Award for Best Contemporary Music Record, and many more.

Refentse sang well-known Afrikaans songs, like Sonvanger, a Theuns Jordaan hit.

Dylan Zwarts brought along his dog, Liefie.

The Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer organisation was also there, raising funds for their cause, and the cupcakes were decorated in the most beautiful way. Lucille du Toit contributed to these beautiful creations.

There was also lots of entertainment for the children – jumping castles, big balls they could climb into in the water, exotic animals from the company Scar, and they also walked through the Sungates gardens to see how vegetables grow.

Sungate Farms celebrated their 22nd birthday.

For the adult entertainment, Tanya V performed beautifully, as always.

There were many places where the kids could get their faces painted, and the teenagers and young adults were able to get exciting stick-on tattoos. Grootjie se Kombuis was also there, selling delicious rib burgers.

On top of all that, there were lots of stalls, selling a wide variety of food and drinks. There were many products to buy – books, handbags – you name it, it was there.

Tanya V, as always, brought music to the day with her beautiful voice.

EPR Security was there to keep everyone safe, and ER24 was there for any unexpected incidents.

One of the big attractions was of course the SA Strongman and Woman event, from the Ironman tour. A number of residents were invited to try to emulate what they do, and this was a whole lot of fun. The team from SA Strongman and Woman did not disappoint!

The proceeds of the day went to three charities, namely Cupcakes 4 kids with cancer, Mablomong Primary School and St Anthony’s Catholic Church.

Andre Nunes and Manny Nunes, owners of Sungate Farms, and Ivone de Gouveia, said, ” On behalf of the Sungate family we would like to thank all who took part in our event in aid of charity. From customers, runners, walkers, flea market stall holders, entertainers, staff and sponsers. We greatly appreciate your support. With your help we hope to make this an annual event.”

Because of all the interesting people and activities that took place, separate articles will also be written about the SA Strongmen, Wrestlers, Cupcakes 4 kids with cancer and many more.
