One airlifted after serious crash

Two injured, one airlifted following a two-vehicle crash yesterday.

One person was seriously injured and airlifted to hospital while another sustained moderate injuries in a two-vehicle crash on the R500 in Carletonville on Thursday afternoon (28 September).

The occupants of the other vehicle sustained no injuries.

Ineke van Huyssteen, ER24 spokesperson said, “ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at about 3.35pm and found a man walking around on the scene and a woman trapped in the vehicle. The Carletonville Fire Brigade was called to the scene to extricate the woman, using the Jaws of Life.

“She was found to be in a serious condition and advanced life support interventions were initiated on the scene.

The woman was airlifted to the Ahmed Kathrada Hospital by the ER24 Oneplan medical helicopter for further medical care. The man was found to have sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Carletonville Hospital by another medical service on the scene.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigation.
