JUST IN: Armed robbery in Greenhills

Police and security officers on the hunt for the suspects in the armed robbery in Greenhills just moments ago. Photos here ...

Randfontein Police are on a manhunt for an unknown number of armed suspects who targeted a delivery vehicle just moments ago/ earlier today (Thursday, 28 September).

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson confirmed that an armed robbery involving a cigarette delivery vehicle had taken place at about 10.30am.

The Herald was at the scene in Crane Street, Greenhills where the delivery vehicle was found abandoned. Police took statements and shortly afterwards found one of the stolen boxes.

Mapogo Security staff were also on scene. Reaction officers Douw Willemse, Dirk Calitz and Pieta Meyer to assist the police in the search for the suspects.

“It is alleged the delivery vehicle crew were busy delivering goods at a garage on Homestead Avenue when they were approached by the armed suspects. They [delivery crew] allegedly managed to flee but the attackers drove off with the delivery vehicle.

“Sergeants Levy Molepo and Ngwenya Nthabeleng were in the area and found the delivery vehicle and most of the cargo in Crane Street. It was established that only a few boxes of cigarettes had been taken.”

The suspects allegedly drove a white Caddy and a grey Mazda.
