R’fontein chefs show some skill in the kitchen

Cooks from all over Gauteng competed against each other.

The South African Chefs Association (Saca) in conjunction with Lucky Star has developed a township career programme.

The main reason for this programme is to show people how to use the canned-fish brand’s products in a cost-effective way. The programme has four events planned annually – a launch, a demonstration, a cooking competition and a social event.

The company provides innovative ideas, recipes and information about their brand, including the benefits of its products. This was all put together in a cooking competition.

On Tuesday 19 September graduates of the township programme from all over Gauteng and with ages ranging between 25 and 40 competed for the chef title. Eight finalists had to cook four plates of food using Lucky Star products for the main meal.

Wilmar Continental was the host for the day.

“I believe that this event fits perfectly into Heritage Month with Lucky Star being an iconic brand for over 50 years,” said vice-president of Saca, Kabelo Segone.

The chefs showed some real skill, innovation, presentation and techniques in the kitchen.

Absalom Kotsokoane from Diano Kwakho Projects (Pty) Ltd walked away with the winning prize of R3 000 cash, Luck Star products, Deli Spices and a variety of hampers. He will also feature on the Lucky Star media page.

The second place went to Asithandile Geleba form Blq Cheri cc and Mmatshepo Mojelele from Khumoetsile Decor and Catering received the third prize.
