Armed robbers hit store: Take goods valued at R19 000

One of the clients involved in the cellphone store heist in Westonaria put up a fight against the armed robbers. They still managed to flee with goods valued at R19 000.

An unknown number of suspects, one of them armed, targeted a well-known cellphone store in Westonaria and succeeded in fleeing with goods to the value of R17 500, said members of the local police force.

According to Warrant Officer Raymond Sebanyane, Westonaria Police spokesperson, the armed robbery took place at about 4.45pm on Tuesday 19 September, but the suspects are still on the loose.

He said the robbers instructed staff and clients to move to the back of the store and that they were speaking Sotho.

“The suspects then told the staff and clients to hand over their cellphones. One client resisted and started fighting with the suspects.

The suspects then ran out of the shop to a Nissan 1 400 bakkie that was parked outside, followed by the client in question. The suspects yelled to others to shoot the client as he was going to give them problems. One shot was fired but no one was injured. The suspects then fled with two Samsung J1As valued at R1 500 each and one Samsung S8 valued at R16 000.”

Video footage was recovered by the Westonaria Police who are investigating the incident.
