The West Rand Retired Teachers Association had a blast with their own version of Wellness Day at the Greenhills Sports Stadium recently.
The day kicked off with a prayer, followed by a fun walk and aerobics session conducted by fitness instructor Opelo Gabaocwe.
“We also had fun with many other recreational indoor games,” said Thola Masibi, former deputy principal at AB Phokompe Secondary School, who is an active runner with Randmark Athletics Club.
Screenings were also done for various ailments such as high cholesterol, blood glucose and blood pressure by Lenmed personnel.
“To many it was a day of fun, but they also experienced fitness on a whole new level. Fitness should be a way of life,” Opelo stressed.
Zacharia Lekgatlhe, chairperson of the West Rand Retired Teachers Association, said that apart from the fun day, they also engaged in other events, including handing out blankets for the aged as a Mandela Day initiative at the Simunye Thuso Club for the Aged, and attended a Human Rights Month event held at the St John The Divine Orphans And Outreach NPO.
