Suspects busted after buying stolen goods

All the goods were confiscated.

Two suspects with ages ranging from 19 to 39 were arrested by the Bekkersdal Intervention team. It is believed the police responded to a tip-off.

It is alleged that on 5 September at about 7.30pm Constables Pontso Thipe and Sibusiso Nonkonyane were conducting routine crime-prevention duties when they received information about a person in possession of suspected stolen goods.

“They followed up on the information and found that the suspects had bought the goods from someone. The suspects were arrested and all the goods were confiscated,” said Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson.

Lefakane added that the suspects will be charged with possession of stolen property and are expected to appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon. The station commander, Colonel Abraham Nkhwashu was very pleased with the arrests.

“This must serve as a warning to everyone buying stolen property. We have warned that we will take action against them,” said Nkhwashu.
