She added the murder occurred on 13 August 2016 and was the result of a domestic incident. It was alleged the husband and wife were socialising with a friend at their home when the husband became aggressive.

“He started pushing his wife around and then forced her out of the house,” said Ernst.

According to the eyewitness, the husband then stabbed the victim twice and she fell just outside the door. The husband then ran away. The eyewitness called the workers on the farm and they all started searching for the suspect in the surrounding areas. Shortly after, a case docket was opened. The eyewitness and the farm employees were able to apprehend the husband the day after the murder occurred.

Etienne van Niekerk was presiding in the matter while Vusi Mhlangu prosecuted on behalf of the State.

“Warrant Officer Thabiso Duiker, the investigating officer is applauded for the investigation into this matter. The contribution by the eyewitness and the community on the farm where the incident happened is again evidence that the police cannot fight crime alone.

“We also acknowledge the stance the National Prosecuting Authority and the justice system took in this matter. It is fitting that his sentence is handed down in National Women’s month. We will stay committed to ensuring justice for the women in our society,” said Brigadier Manamela, the Randfontein Police station commander.
