During the early hours of this morning (Monday, 4 September) the business was targeted by an unknown number of criminals who fled with up to 50 handguns. Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, confirmed that the burglary took place sometime between midnight and 4am. “It is believed the robbers gained access from behind the premises and managed to get away with an estimated 50 pistols,” said Appel. She added that the suspects had gained access to one safe, but not to the second. The robbers also took other equipment, clothes and products from the store.

The firearm cases left on the scene.

After noon on Monday, Ernst confirmed, “Up to 50 firearms (pistols) are currently missing. The suspects also ransacked the shop, and clothing and other equipment is also missing. No-one has been arrested yet. The West Rand Trio Task team and other specialised units are still on the scene processing evidence.

Appel emphasised the seriousness of the matter and said that this criminal deed could have serious consequences.

“We urge the community to help us with any information about the suspects and especially the firearms that are missing,” said Appel.

Brigadier Manamela, Randfontein Station Commander urged any person who might shed light on the burglary or the stolen firearms to urgently call the Trio Task team on 079 496 6288. Information may be provided anonymously.
