Police: Vehicle a ‘killing machine’, drive safe

Police appeal to motorists to drive safely following a number of motor vehicle accidents which resulted in the deaths of minors.

Local police are concerned about several reported motor vehicle incidents which resulted in the deaths of minors over the past few months.

“We urge motorists to be more cautious when operating motor vehicles. Remember, you are operating a potential killing machine the minute that you start the vehicle. Although vehicle incidents are not our main mandate, it is disconcerting how many people in Randfontein have recently lost their lives as a result thereof,” said Brigadier Manamela, the Randfontein Police station commander.

The following tips are given by the police:

• Adhere to all road signage – it is there for a reason.

• Stop when you are at a stop sign controlled intersection. Yielding is not stopping.

• Do not take chances – remember, if you cross while the traffic light is amber, some other motorist might also take the chance to pull away against the red traffic light, resulting in a collision.

• Do not drink and drive.

• Do not speed. Rather be late than sorry. Nothing is more important than human life.

• Report stolen road signage in your area, it might just save a life.
