Carjackers strike: Police warn of ‘golden opportunities’

Beware of 'golden opportunities' such as filling up your tank in the early hours of the morning, police warn following a vicious carjacking in Randfontein.

A 41-year-old victim was recently allegedly assaulted during a carjacking incident at a petrol station in Stubb Street, Randfontein.

It is alleged the victim was at the garage to fill up with petrol at about 12.30am, when two suspects opened his car door and hit him over the head with an unknown object. They then pulled the man from his vehicle and drove off. The victim sustained serious injuries to his head.

He was accompanied by a witness to the Randfontein Police Station where an ambulance was summoned to take him to a local hospital.

According to the police spokesperson, Captain Appel Ernst, the police are investigating a carjacking case. Any information that may assist the investigation can be reported to the Randfontein Police on 011 767 2350.

• Drive defensively and with company

• Try to keep valuables out of sight

• Try not to get stranded in an unfamiliar location

• Take safety precautions after minor accidents

• Be careful where you park
