Armed robbery under customers’ noses

At least two robbers, one of them armed, targeted a retail store in a mall in the Randfontein CBD over the weekend – right under customers' noses.

A retail store in Village Square Shopping Centre in the CBD was targeted by armed robbers over the weekend.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, “At about 11am on Sunday, 20 August, an unknown man allegedly entered the store and showed an employee a concealed firearm.

He allegedly instructed her to take him to the manager. She and the manager were both told to keep quiet and were forced to the back of the store. A second suspect then allegedly entered the shop and demanded the keys to the safe.

“The suspects took numerous cellphones, locked their victims in the storeroom and fled the scene,” said Ernst.
