On Saturday, 19 August, a man believed to be in his late 60s and a child aged approximately 10 years died following an accident on Lazar Avenue in Wheatlands.
It is believed that a grandfather and his grandson were on their way to the local pigeon club at about 7pm when a head-on crash occurred.
According to a reliable official source, the man passed away before paramedics could arrive on scene. The child sustained serious injuries and was transported to Lenmed Hospital by ambulance. There he was referred to another hospital, but just before he could be airlifted, the child sadly passed away.
The Herald was on scene after the accident and saw several car parts in the road. A motorist that passed by told the Herald that both the boy and man were well-known in the community.

It is believed that the same boy was involved in a horror crash approximately two years ago, at which time his mother, sister, and a friend passed away.
More details of the accident are not yet known.
