The Herald was informed of this barbaric act by Sannie Kruger, an AfriForum member. The Herald visited the site where the dog was found with Kruger.

According to a resident in her 60s who lives next to the veld and who eventually buried the dog, “The dog was crying out from the pain it went through. The dog’s cries could be heard.”

Demi van Wyk, founder of the Venterspost Community group said, “The dog, just before his cruel death, was allegedly poisoned, but was alive when he was burnt. Rumours have been circulating about a Labrador chasing chickens and bothering residents, but nobody knows who did this.”

“There have been several dog-poisonings in the area recently,” van Wyk added.

Another resident told the Herald that a donkey was slaughtered in another part of the veld, near where the dog died.

“This is extremely disturbing, and if it could be done to animals, what will be done to our community? ” asked Kruger.
