Palesa – a born Hollywood star

Meet the RHS pupil who wishes to become a world-famous actress.

In 2013, a drama teacher saw 18-year-old Palesa Mthombeni’s remarkable talent.

Palesa is a Grade 11 student at Randfontein High School (RHS) and is a dreamer with a talent like no other.

In 2013 she participated in the Raca Eisteddfod for the first time, entering a variety of categories which included singing, praise poetry, prepared reading, monologue and poetry in Zulu.

“That year, I realised that I wanted to enter Raca again and that is when my acting career started,” said Palesa.

Palesa received her first cultural half-colours at school in 2015. In 2016, Raca became the provincial round competition for entry into the Talent Africa national competition. Palesa told the Herald that as a result of attaining both Platinum and Diamond certificates she was eligible to enter Talent Africa. She received outstanding gold awards (over 90 per cent) for all her performance. She performed two monologues and two dramatic poems.

“I was selected to represent South Africa in the Talent America competition which ran from 4 to 13 July in New York City, in the USA,” said Palesa.

At Talent America she performed five solos, two monologues and three dramatic poems and achieved two gold awards, two second places and one runner-up. She also received a special award for divisional winner.

At school Palesa has drama as a subject. She also practices drama after school and during holidays. Her dream is to one day become an actress or a television presenter.

She believes that with confidence, high self-esteem and passion she will be able to achieve her goals. She is currently seeking assistance from any agency that will take her and train her to be a world-class star.
