Skeletal remains found in Aureus

Human skeletal remains found near railway houses in Aureus.

The Randfontein Police are investigating after human skeletal remains were found in Aureus last week.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, said they were called to a scene near the railway houses in the area at about 4pm on Monday, 17 July and upon their arrival, police members were shown an area where skeletal remains had been discovered.

“It is alleged that railway employees were cleaning the area when they found the remains,” Ernst said.

The following clothing items were found with the remains: a navy-blue jersey, grey trousers and brown boots. The cause of death will be determined by a post-mortem.

Randfontein detectives are investigating an inquest docket and the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Lindie Breytenbach, would appreciate any assistance the public might be able to offer.

Anybody who might know of a person, whether male or female, who disappeared in the past few months, and was wearing similar clothing, is requested to contact Warrant Officer Breytenbach on 011 278 8100.
