We sincerely hope this doesn’t leave you paranoid, but … the manufacturers of Dettol have revealed the top germ hot spots in and around the house.

Germs are said to lurk on many common, unexpected objects that you and your family come into daily contact with in the home and garden.

Here are some of the places germs lie in waiting for unsuspecting passers-by:

• Chopping board:

The chopping board you use to prepare your family’s meal carries up to 4,34 million germs.

• Keyboard:

Your computer’s keyboard can spread 2,3 million germs among the family.

• Football:

After playing outdoors, your child’s football can bring nearly 1,54 million germs into your home.

• Couch:

Your couch’s armrest can harbour up to 0,32 million germs over the total surface area.

• School bag:

After being carried around at school all day, a school bag could have up to 0,12 million germs on it.

• Slide/ swing:

0,09 million germs can fester in the playground, where children inadvertently pick them up and bring them home.

• TV remote:

A remote control can spread 0,05 million germs through the family throughout the day.

• Mobile phone

You hold it against your face and in your hand – and nearly 0,01 million germs can be found on it.
