Easter Sunday murder: Four in court for Du Toit’s murder

Four suspects to appear in court for the Easter Sunday 2015 murder of Marius du Toit.

Culemborg Park — Four suspects are due to appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 31 July in connection with the murder of Marius du Toit, which took place in Randfontein two years ago.

Du Toit was shot and killed in his home in Culemborg Park early on Easter Sunday morning in 2015. Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, said at the time that four men had overpowered the family and shot and killed Marius in the presence of his son, who was 15 years old at the time.

Ernst said, “It is alleged the suspects gained entry to the house by breaking the burglar proofing at a window.”

Du Toit’s brother-in-law was also injured as he was stabbed during the robbery.

Lieutenant Colonel Gert Kruger and the Krugersdorp Cluster Trio Task Team arrested five suspects in September 2015. One suspect was found to be in possession of one of the stolen cellphones, but could not be linked to the murder or the robbery, so he was set free by the court.

Warrant Officer Thabiso Duiker is still the investigating officer.
