Palesa shines for RHS in New York

RHS dramatic arts learner a step closer to fulfilling her dream of becoming an actress after having represented Team SA in New York.

Palesa Mthombeni from Randfontein High School (RHS) was selected to represent Talent Africa’s Team SA at the Talent America competition in early July in New York, USA.

There she blew everyone away, performing five solos, two monologues and three dramatic poems and achieved one first place, two runners-up spots and a third place.

“The highlight was when I received a special award for divisional winner,” said Palesa.

Palesa is keen to further her career in acting and is currently seeking assistance from any agency that will help her train to become an actress and help her live her dream.

Palesa is a dramatic arts learner and participates in the school’s Randfontein Arts and Cultural Association (RACA) creative arts eisteddfod annually.

Palesa has worked diligently to enter the competition since her Grade 8 year and has been awarded several high achievement certificates for her performances. These include a platinum certificate with a score of between 90 and 94 per cent and a diamond certificate for a score of between 95 and 100 per cent.

“My entries have included monologues, dramatic poetry, praise poetry, prepared reading and scene work. As a result of my hard work, I was awarded half colours for cultural achievement by RHS,” said Palesa.

In 2016, the RACA became the provincial competition leading up to the world class talent competition, Talent Africa. As a result of attaining both platinum and diamond certificates in the past RACA year, she was eligible to enter Talent Africa. Palesa managed to receive outstanding gold awards for all her performances. She entered two monologues and two dramatic poems.
