Mandela Day: Woman, 93, gets house, and school gets a bus

An elderly woman received a house and school a bus in Mohlakeng from the municipality on Mandela Day.

The Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) celebrated Mandela Day with several activities on 18 July, among them gifting a school with a bus and an elderly Mohlakeng woman with a house.

The day saw Mzi Khumalo, RWCLM Executive Mayor and Barbara Creecy, Gauteng Finance MEC getting themselves dirty painting part of Phandulwazi Primary School in Mohlakeng but that wasn’t all that happened –they also received a bus.

Sandile Siko, the principal of the school, could not hold back his tears when his blindfold was removed and he saw Phatuxolo Nodada, the Busmark manager, standing beside the bus.

“I never expected this, thank you,” the principal said as he was consoled by the Mayor and Creecy.

It was also a day that 93-year-old senior citizen, Ivah Nozipho Majuqulwana, will never forget, as she became the beneficiary of a house in Mohlakeng Extension 11.

The bus handed to the school.

Khumalo said several IDP interactions had made him aware of the elderly woman’s living conditions with her daughter and grand-daughter, and motivated him to arrange for her to get a house.
