Mandela Week activities for the West Rand

West Rand District Municipality announces Mandela Week activities, starting on Monday, 17 July.

The West Rand District Municipality (WRDM) has announced that its Mandela Week activities will take place over a period of five days.

The official programme for the week will commence on Tuesday, 18 July, and run until Friday, 21 July, and will cover all areas of the West Rand.

According to their statement, the WRDM, in partnership with Ntirhisano – an outreach programme that provides a platform for government in the Gauteng City Region to assess service delivery and engage with residents to help them resolve their challenges – will launch the Mandela Month Programme on Monday, 17 July.

All the mayors in the region, led by Councillor Boyce Maneli, the West Rand District Executive Mayor, will announce their municipalities’ plans shortly, as the world will be joining South Africa in celebrating the legendary life and times of Nelson Mandela.

During the launch, 220 elderly residents of Toekomsrus will enjoy an early Mandela Day birthday celebration, as they will be pampered with gifts from Sibanye Gold, the WRDM, and other sponsors. The Executive Mayor and the oldest citizen of Toekomsrus will cut the Mandela birthday cake together.
